In “Exploring the Use of ChatGPT in Supporting Preservice Special Education Teachers,” researchers investigated how ChatGPT helps teachers-in-training meet Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards. The study involved 166 participants who used ChatGPT to support lesson planning, differentiation strategies, and IEP development. This AI-driven approach offered practical solutions for bridging the gap between theory and application in special education.

The study concluded that ChatGPT is a valuable tool for teacher preparation, particularly in higher education. It highlighted how the platform can simplify the creation of individualized lesson plans and IEPs, aligning with professional standards. However, the authors cautioned against over-reliance on the tool and recommended pairing it with guided instruction to maximize its benefits.

As individual educators, we can replicate these functionalities in the classroom. Using ChatGPT, teachers could brainstorm lesson plans tailored to specific disabilities, generate sample IEP goals, or role-play parent-teacher meetings for practice. With Python, educators could design tools like automated IEP generators or trackers to monitor student progress. Combined, ChatGPT and Python can streamline administrative tasks, freeing up time for hands-on teaching and student interaction.
